The MYO Guide

How to make a Kwillian?

Kwillians are a semi-open species meaning that you get a certain amount for free, but have to either participate in the group to earn/win further slots or adopts, or purchase them from the various shop options! Don't worry though, as you start with the following for free here in Kwillians!

Three (3) MYO Slots

One (1) Breeding Slots

If you haven't read our Newbie Guide head on over to learn more about Kwillians and ES-ARPGs!

It's important that we take a look at the anatomy of a standard, blank slate MYO Kwilling to start! This little guy will help us understand the basics of Kwilling anatomy so that you can see what a proper little Kwilling should look like!

The Basics

  • One single, round gem placed on the chest!
  • Fleshy "ears" atop the head that are actually psuedo-ears developed for clearing dirt away from overhead.
  • Short and very chubby legs that are rounded at the back with a stocky and thick body.
  • Three clawed toes on each one of their four feet!
  • A short and nubby tail placed on the butt where it belongs.
  • Triangular, gem colored nose, where a nose should be alongside a round gem-colored tongue!

  • Please keep in mind that you must adhere to basic anatomy rules at all times if you want to count an image for shards or for requirements, including in everyday art you do of your Kwilling.

All MYO Kwilling approvals may now include the Head Fluff upgrade upon approval! NO other upgrades may be included on an MYO Approval!

This means no pupils, body fur, baby wings, etc. may be added on approval and must wait until after.

    Step 1.A | The Gem

The Gem is the container of a Kwillians very soul, and also coincidentally, the soul is the container for a Kwillians magic. This makes it the most important part of a Kwillian, since a Kwillian without a gem, is simply a corpse.

The gem is the method of conducting magic out of the soul and into the world around a Kwillian, allowing them to perform magical feats previously seen as fantastical and impossible.

A Kwillians gem glows when performing magic! They also turn dull when a Kwillian is sad or sick, and shine when a Kwillian is happy and healthy!

Every MYO Kwilling will start off as one of the currently available MYO Palettes. What palettes are available changes depending on many factors, including but not limited to; time of year, events going on, palette reworks, etc.

We'll go through the different parts of coloring your Kwillian, such as picking your palette (alongside seeing which ones are available), placements, and of course eye and gem color.

    Step 2.A | Picking a Proper Palette

There are two types of palettes that you can choose from when making your new MYO Kwilling.

If your Kwillian is a Subspecies they also have access to their respective Subspecies Palettes! A link to what palettes a subspecies can have should be linked on each Subspecies' MYO page in their respective Palette sections!

    Basic MYO Palettes

  • These are our basic MYO Palettes that are available year round.
  • They rarely change, however, they are also rarely added to.
  • Step 2.B | Placements (and eyebrows)

MYO Kwillings can start with up to Six (6) of the available MYO placements. You can use as many (or as few!) of the secondaries on a palette as you would like.

Eyebrows can be any secondary color on the palette, NOT ACCENT COLORED!

    Kwilling Placements

You may use up to 6 placements. Round and merge as necessary to avoid gaps and jagged edges! Try to make sure that any placement resembles its placement example.

Remember that while placements can overlap, even if they're of different colors, they cannot make sharp edges.

Not sure your placements are legal? Pop into our discord and ask in the #art-and-application-help channel.

Step 2.C | Gem, Eyes, Accent!

A Kwillians accent color is really just their gem color placed on the toes, or tail of a Kwilling! When applied to the toes it should be symmetrical (i.e. it must be applied to both the back feet and/or both the front feet at once, not mismatched!)

The only color rule for the eyes and gems is that they can be any color that is not below 15% Lightness or above 85% Lightness in HSL Values. The L in HSL stands for Lightness and should be the last number as HSL is formatted as following: (00, 00%, 00%).

The bold and underlined part of the HSL Format should be your Lightness value! As long as that's anywhere in the range of 16% to 84% you're in the clear!

We recommend using an online HSL checker vs the one in your program as often saving file can alter colors, and you need to double check that your eye or gem color(s) hasn't/haven't ended up lighter or darker then intended!

    Why no Black/White Gems?

It's a well known fact among Kwillian that Gems that are (or are near) the colors Pure White and Pure Black, are considered Godly. Even gems that simply contain some black or white are viewed as either omens of great, or terrible times ahead.

The hatching of a Kwillian with a godly gem is a phenomenal and incredibly rare event, and those with such amazing displays of holy (or, unholy) power are often either revered on pedestals, or locked away...

The second most important part of a Kwillian is their Magical Alignment. Every Kwillian is born aligned to a single type of magic, allowing them to perform magical feats that match their alignment.

The Available 5 Alignments for MYO's are...

Fire, Water, Air, Earth, or Purity

A Kwillians Alignment can have influence over their personality, meaning a Kwillian aligned to fire may behave different from one aligned to water. Don't worry though, these personality traits are completely optional!

    IMPORTANT NOTE: CORRUPTION

This alignment is NOT available via normal means. In order to make a Kwillian with the corruption alignment, you must first have a Tainted Idol item.

YOU CANNOT MAKE A CORRUPTION KWILLIAN MYO WITHOUT A TAINTED IDOL

    Step 3.A | The Personalities

These are the personality traits that the different basic alignments tend to display! Remember, these are just suggestions and do not have to be followed in any official capacity.

    Fire

Kwillians aligned to the Fire Element are known for being hot-headed and passionate. Although they're easy to get a rise out of, there is no Element more loyal to their friends than an ill-tempered Fire Kwillian.

    Water

Kwillians who harbor the Water Element are often regarded as unreliable and inconsistent. Their opinions change like the tides and waves of the seas. They're often regarded as bad friends due to their unreliable nature.

    Air

Kwillians with the Air Element as their alignment are fast-paced and always want to have some sort of job to do. They're easily distracted, but that doesn't stop them from being some of the fastest and most dedicated workers you can find! Air Kwillian are quick to decide on things, although that doesn't mean much thought went in!

    Earth

Earth-aligned Kwillians are viewed as steadfast and reliable. Although they may take their time with things, they make some of the highest quality and most desired products in Metioth. Their slow nature often makes people view them as dumb, but they just tend to think things over a lot more than other Kwillians!

    Purity

Purity Kwillians are of course viewed as the best in society. Regarded as outgoing, kind-hearted, and loving Kwillian with hearts of gold. Held to a high standard, they're expected to be even-tempered, defusing what could possibly be bad or threatening situations.

    Corruption

Kwillians who are aligned with Corruption are seen as bad omens. They're often withdrawn, short-tempered and quick to retaliate to perceived threats. Corruption Kwillians also have a bad habit of taking things said to heart and holding onto negativity.

    A Recap...

  • MYO Kwillings can start with the Head Fluff Upgrade, but cannot start with any other upgrades.
  • You must use one of the currently available palettes, whether they be basic, seasonal, or exclusive to your Kwillians subspecies.
  • You can use as many as all and as few as none of the secondaries on a templates palette.
  • Placements can overlap, creating larger placements, but not complex shapes.
  • The accent color (or gem color) can be placed on the toes and/or tail.
  • Your Kwillian can be Fire, Water, Air, Earth or Purity aligned without the use of a Tainted Idol.
  • There's many things to keep in mind when drawing your Kwillings approval! Most of these are to keep approvals semi-consistent, making noticing actual anatomy errors on the approval easier to do.

    Things to Keep in Mind

  • Your Kwillings head should be drawn in a completely profile (side) view, this means we shouldn't be able to see the other eye!
  • The body should be facing the same way as the head in order to avoid distorting placements.
  • No shading or highlights except for optional white eyeshine!
  • Your Kwilling should be drawn with all four feet flat on the ground in a boring standing pose.
  • Make sure to add your Kwillians eye and gem/accent colors to their appropriate boxes!
  • If you're drawing traditionally, please try to take the image in natural lighting on a flat surface, or use by using a scanner. Please remember if we can't see your Kwillian clearly we will have to ask you to re-take your images!
  • Step 5.A | The Process (of drawing the approval)

    Sketching and Lining

Use the content buttons or scroll up to the Anatomy Section for a refresher.
  • Make sure to keep the basics in mind, when sketching and lining your Kwilling!
  • This baby is in a feet flat on the floor boring standing pose!
  • Remember as well that MYO Kwillings should be depicted in full profile view (aka from the side) without the other eye visible at minimum.
  • Try to keep most toes visible, however all the toes that are required to be visible is at least the legs closest to the viewpoint.

Don't forget your shard count in the description!

    Toyhou.se Approvals

Approvals done through Toyhou.se should be uploaded to a dedicated Character or Kwillians Gallery.

Unlike DeviantArt uploads, you'll have to head over to our Toyhou.se Group and read the rules in the forums by clicking here!

Don't forget to add the approval to your Shard Tracker

Don't have a shard tracker yet? Read our Currency Guide!

Once your deviation is posted/forum thread is created make sure to submit it to our #kwilling-approvals channel found in our server! Be sure to check the pinned messages in the channel to get the channel form.
