The MYO Guide

An Introduction to MYOs

If you're new to the Evolving Species ARPG scene or want to know more about starting in Kwillians, you should make sure to check out our Newbie Guide for more information! This includes the item(s) you start with, content warnings for the group, and some basic information on Kwillians and the world. If you're already a member or know the basics of the group and its functions, you can just skip this part.

How to make a Kwillian?

Kwillians are a Semi-Open species, meaning you get a set number of MYO Slots for FREE upon starting, as outlined in the Newbie Guide.

All members start with Three (3) FREE MYO Slots!

You can earn more MYO Slots and Vouchers via participating in the group, winning raffles, or purchasing them with USD from our shop.

Step 1 | An Overview on Anatomy

To help you understand the basics of Kwilling anatomy, we have a few helpful images and a list of things to keep an eye out for when drawing your approval and Kwillings in general!

Base Anatomy

  • Kwillings typically walk on four legs, with their front legs relatively thicker than the rest of their body.
  • Fleshy “pseudo-ears” on top of their heads that are built for sensing vibrations and channeling sound down toward the covered ear holes in front of them.
  • These are not real ears and therefore do not have an inner ear structure; instead, they are slightly curved inward to help funnel sounds.

  • Round semi-circular brows above their eyes.
  • Kwillings start with pawed feet as a default; each one has three toes, no thumb, and no paw pads.
  • A long tail that is roughly the same length as, sometimes a little longer than, a Kwillings body.
  • No pupils with a completely white sclera
  • A Round Gem with the tongue and mouth matching the gem color
  • V-shaped rabbit-like nose with a connecting line to the mouth
  • No teeth and a rounded tongue with no fork
  • A smooth cat-shaped mouth with no notches or sharp edges.

Creation Options

  • Choice between a defined muzzle or a more rectangular/oval-shaped digging muzzle!
  • Head Fluff & Body Fur are FREE on the Baby Application, no need to unlock them to apply!

Any baby upgrades NOT listed in the Creation Options area must be unlocked and applied AFTER approval!

The Palettes

Kwillian MYOs must use one of the large variety of available MYO palettes posted to the group's resource account. There are many palettes available, and they very, very rarely change; only palettes that are seldom or never used are removed from the lineup.

There are currently twenty-six (26) palettes available year-round for any MYO to use.

  • There are planned Seasonal palettes only available during certain times of year. Each palette set will last four months, overlapping with a particular real-life season and matching its theme.
  • Upon release, Subspecies will have their own Unique Background Templates and access to a variety of extra palettes specific to each subspecies..
  • The Gem & Eyes

A Kwillians Gem and Eye color follow the same set of basic rules; they cannot be too close to pure black or pure white.

To help with consistency, we've assigned numerical values to the minimum and maximum Lightness that Gem/Accent and Eye Color can be. This ensures fairness in staff moderation, rather than making it a case-by-case or opinion-based matter.

    • The minimum Lightness value for Gem/Eye color is 15% on the HSL Scale
    • The maximum Lightness value for Gem/Eye color is 85% on the HSL Scale

Due to different art programs giving different HSL numbers on occasion, we recommend using the website linked above to color pick and check the Lightness value of your chosen colors.

Why no Black or White Eyes/Gem?

White eyes mimic blindness, while black eyes are unable to show certain upgrades, such as the Pupils upgrade. Upgrades must be be able to be seen to be applied, obscured upgrades simply don't exist as far as mechanics are concerned.

As for gems, in the world of Kwillians, white or black gems are called Godly Gems, a rare phenomenon believed to occur only when a child of a god and a mortal is born.

    The Gem Glow

The Gem glows when a Kwillian uses their magic, even if it's just a baby activating their baby ability! The glow color should be an Add or Add (Glow) layer, which might lighten the gem color quite a bit! Make sure to keep this in mind when picking your gem color, as Magic is the basis of all life in Kwillians.

    Placing Placements

Kwillings have access to free placements and do not follow any set patterns when coloring your baby. You can use as many or as few of the secondaries available on a palette as you'd like, even as few as zero secondaries on your Kwillian.

Although you can use as many placements as you'd like, the base color must still take up at least fifty percent (50%) of the total body-surface of a Kwillian, this includes the tail.

The Gem/Accent color can be used as a Secondary for placements and for coloring upgrades.
Dual-Colored Gem allows split Accent Placements!

    Placement Do's and Don'ts

    The Placement Do's

Left: The Base Color is showing on roughly 50% of what is visible on the Kwilling, including the tail. Placements can always overlap or be layered to give more space for the base to show through!
Center: The Placement edges are wobbly, lacking sharp points or drastic curves. The curves are undefined and predominantly random, lacking distinct shapes or patterns with well-defined edges.
Right: No Markings are present, such as stripes, bands, spots, etc, on the Kwilling; the 'spots' are large and singular, while the 'stripes' are round and blobby with no sharp points.

    The Placement Don'ts

Left: The Base Color is showing on roughly 50% of what is visible on the Kwilling, including the tail. Placements can always overlap or be layered to give more space for the base to show through!
Center: The edges of the Placements have sharp points and indents, the curves are too defined and do not abide by the 'wobbly' placement edge rules.
Right: This Kwillings placement resembles markings too much, with sharp edges on the back stripes and spots that are far too small. There are also bands present on the ears separate from the layered placement, which is too thin!

If you need help determining the legality of a design, never be afraid to pop into the #art-and-application-help channel on our Discord to ask for staff feedback!

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Corruption

Corruption is NOT available as a starting or basic Alignment for MYOs. You must have an item called a Tainted Idol in your inventory to make an MYO with the Corruption Alignment.

    The Basic Five Alignments

Every Kwillian starts with a predetermined alignment that controls their Elemental Magics. MYOs start as one of the basic Five (5) Alignments, which are also known as the Safe Primaries of Elemental Magic.

Kwillian are able to perform Magic because of their Gem, which also houses their soul! Since their element and soul are so close together, they often reflect certain personalities depending on the Alignment they're born as.

Without a Warped Aligned Kwillian to detect Alignment, it's usually impossible to tell what magic a baby can do until they perform their Baby Ability for the first time!

While there are non-elemental magics Kwillian can learn in their lives, their Elemental Magic is their inherent magic that they're born with.

    The Five (5) Basic Alignments...

The personalities are just suggestions but are often seen in non-player characters in lore, making them the standard expectation!

    Fire:

Fire Aligned Kwillian are known for being hot-headed, passionate, and not only fiercely loyal to but also protective of those they are close to. They're quick to anger and to start a fight, whether physical or verbal, and their rage often leads them to make plenty of mistakes. Mistakes that they're prone to ignoring and never learning from, of course.

    Water:

Water Aligned Kwillian are often seen as unreliable and inconsistent, when in reality they simply 'go with the flow' of life. Spontaneous and malleable, their opinions change like the tides; they seem to let most things roll off their backs like water. If one does somehow manage to anger one, their fury is as unforgiving as the ocean itself…

    Air:

Air Aligned Kwillian don't take life slowly, fast-paced and enthusiastic, they like to keep busy. From jobs that require lots of moving around to hobbies like racing, flying, and anything else that can let them keep moving, Air Kwillian hate being sedentary. Easily distracted and often forgetful, they're still dedicated workers, and sometimes just require a gentle reminder.

    Earth:

Earth Kwillian are viewed as steadfast, reliable, and stubborn. They take their time with tasks and thinking, resulting in some of the best crafts and most thoughtful answers out of any Kwillian. Some mistake Earth Kwillians slow responses as a lack of intelligence, but they just enjoy taking their time, and prefer to think things over before answering too soon.

    Purity:

Purity Kwillian, one of the most highly regarded Alignments in Kwillian Society, viewed as children born closer to Leht. Often expected to be a reflection of the Goddess of light, they're generous, kind-hearted, and loving, meant to have hearts of gold. Kwillian with this Alignment are held to higher standards than their other Alignment counterparts, never allowed to get into fights or arguments with others, and expected always to keep a level head…

    Other Personalities

    Corruption:

Regarded as Bad Omens for families they're born in and often unwanted by their parents. Corruption Kwillian are often withdrawn and quiet, yet short-tempered and quick to retaliate at any perceived slight or threat. Things said to them, even in jest, are taken to heart, and itnernalized. They don't let go of grudges easily...

    Sketching and Lining

Scroll up to the Anatomy Section if you need a refresher!
    • The approval should be a boring, standing pose, with the head in complete profile (one side of the face showing only, no other eye, eyebrow, etc. visible) and facing the same way as the rest of the body.
    • There should be NO shading or highlights on the Approval, aside from optional white shine on the eye and/or gem.
    • Try to keep most of the toes visible; however, having the closest feet to the viewpoint, showing all three toes, is most important!

    Coloring the Approval

    • Remember that you can use all or none of the secondaries, and can add as many or as few placements as you want, so long as 50% of the body/tail combined is shown as the Base Color.
    • Double check that the Eyes / Accent are more than 15% Lightness and less than 85% Lightness to avoid being too close to black or white.
    • The Accent color can be used as a secondary for placements, and if used as one, also counts as a secondary for future upgrades!

    Deviantart Approvals

Approvals done through DeviantArt should be uploaded to the site as a deviation, NOT as a Sta.sh image or Scraps. Make sure to select the Original Resolution to avoid artifacting on the image. Once that's done, add the MYO Information found below into the description and fill it out.

Don't forget your shard count at the bottom of the description!

    Toyhou.se Approvals

Approvals uploaded to Toyhou.se should be either on a dedicated character profile or a general “Kwillians Gallery” Character!

Unlike DeviantArt uploads, you'll have to head over to our Toyhou.se World and read the rules in the forums! You can get there on the side-nav of the World or just click HERE for a shortcut!

    The Shard Tracker

All approvals require a Shard Tracker to be made to help you and Kwillian staff log and moderate your shards! If you don't have one yet, check out our Currency Guide by clicking the button below!

Once your Approval is uploaded and all information is filled out, you can submit it to the Google Form found in the #kwillians-approval channel in our Discord.

    MYO Information Form

    The Annotated Form

Name: Your Kwillians name! Remember, what's on the IMAGE will be what they're tracked with!
