A Guide to Upgrades

What is an Upgrade?

The term "Upgrade" refers to the various physical traits and additions that Kwillian can be born with or develop overtime as they grow. These traits can be anything from wings to different ears to even changing colors entirely! It's not unusual for a grown Kwillian to look drastically different from, or even just like, their parents.

In the group, Upgrades actually means the additions you can earn by completing requirements and earning shards! You can use upgrades to diversify Kwillian from one another, from applying upgrades gradually overtime to dumping them all on at once, there's no wrong way to upgrade.

Upgrade Information

Welcome to a brief informational guide on what each section of an upgrade card means. Keep in mind the image to the right/below is just a placeholder, each upgrade has an upgrade image above all of the information, a visual guide to show you where an upgrade should be and what it looks like.

    Applying Upgrades

How Do I Apply an Upgrade?

In order to apply an upgrade you'll need to...

  • Make sure you've met/completed all of the requirements for the upgrade, i.e. have enough Shard, the Kwillian is old enough, and you have the art/other requirement for the upgrade completed.
  • Draw an image displaying the upgrade you want to apply on the Kwillian you want to apply it to (your application image!)
  • List the upgrade(s) applied in the description alongside a link to the image(s) needed to fulfill the requirement.
  • Don't forget if there are art requirement(s) to link the requirement(s) in the description when you post the art to your DeviantArt account.

What Upgrades can I Apply to Babies?

The only upgrades that your Kwillings can get normally via fulfilling requirements are the ones listed on the Baby Upgrades page.

Anything outside of that would (if applicable) have to be applied to your baby Kwillian with an upgrade item, or be acquired via a voucher or other such application methods.

It's even the case that some upgrades simply can't be applied to babies at all, usually denoted with an 'X' or the like. All grown wings and grown horns are not applicable to Kwillings at all.

    Asymmetry in Upgrades?

All upgrades applied must be symmetrical, with the only exception being upgrades geared towards asymmetry like Mismatched Wings or textures like scales, feathers, and spikes.

If one arm wing is applied as feathery, the other must also be feathery. Or if you want to apply Small Claws, they must be applied to either both of the front legs and/or both of the back legs.

All colors on upgrades must also match to start with, so one wing cannot be red and the other blue without using color mixer.

    Requirements Notes: Collabs & Coloring

Members may want to or even be required to collab with other members. Whether this be for events, magic art, requirements, or other, it's important to keep in mind that all requirements for you Kwillian must be uploaded to your account.

It's also important to remember that all requirements must be colored and able to count for the colored art shards on our shard guide. This means clean, legible coloring with the characters intended placements and markings.
