Welcome to the Bestiary, where you'll find all of the released creatures from pets to farm animals to wildlife and the monsters in the world.
These creatures have all been created for Kwillians to make the world more lively, unique, and interesting! You're encouraged to draw them side by side with your Kwillian! You're also free to use these creatures in Non-Kwillian ways, however, please make sure to give credit to the group and not to take these for your own ARPG's.
Unfortunately, No! The pet species you'll see here all have a use in the Kwillian Mechanics- and more importantly- and aren't free to make! If you're wanting to count any pet for Shards they'll have to be an official one owned by a Member or NPC only. These can all be found on the Kwillians-Resource Account. The only time where you'll be able to semi-make yourself a pet, is the colorable lines given by the Pet Net, Pet Collar, or Deluxe Pet Collar sold by NPCs!
If you're interested in getting a pet, keep an eye on the Kwillians-Resource Account or the #mildreds-pet-emporium Channel for pets to go up for sale!
Alternatively, you can join the Kwillians Discord and keep eye on #the-marketplace channel there for anyone putting pets up for trade, or keep an eye on #the-traveling-merchant or the #mildreds-pet-emporium channel for their respective items to be restocked for a shot at designing your very own pet while of course following the item rules!
A tag letting you know that this Creature is domesticated. Often these domesticated creatures can be found in the wild still, however, you'll more likely spot them in civilization than you will in the wilds of the world!
This will let you know how often this creature is encountered! Whether this be in the wild or in captivity as pets.
Seen often and not at all unusual to spot, even in the wild! This rarity means this creature is everywhere.
Unusual or Uncommon to see, possibly spotted only in only specific areas!
Rarely seen, these are typically creatures that live in one very specific area or that are sparse and hidden from sight.
Quite the treat to see, these creatures are Very Rare and are never kept as pets and barely seen in the wild.
Considered to be Myths or Legends, these creatures are regarded by most to not be real.
The general tempermant of the creature, from passive all the way to hostile, make sure you don't go messing with dangerous creatures!
Skittish in nature, likely to run off simply upon seeing a Kwillian or anything predatory.
Passive and Docile, these creatures are friendly and non-aggressive, even when provoked.
Though these creatures are typically passive, they may attack if you approach too closely or attack them first. Possibly also defensive of their young.
Dangerous, these creatures may attack simply upon approach or act as predators for Kwillian! Either raise your weapon and fight- or run away!
These creatures, if spotted, SHOULD NOT BE APPROACHED. Danger means a creature is capable of killing single or multiple Kwillian with ease. Report any spotted Dangerous creatures to the appropriate authority.
One of the most popular pets there are, Veneberra take the cake with cute! These Lush-Cavern dwelling little lizards love to show off their colorful tongues and are sure to wiggle their way into your heart!
Domesticated?: Yes
Rarity: Common
Tempermant: Skittish
Veneberra are a small, commonly found Nature-alligned creature, often seen as a pet all around Metioth. These adorable little reptillians are a quadrupedal species with flower-like tail tips, often observed to have small spikes over their bodies and clawed feet. Originating from the Lush Caverns of Altuar deep underground, these adorable little creatures are now more often seen in the living rooms and gardens of Kwillian all over the continent. Outranking their feline friends the Moppets in popularity, many Kwillian would also argue these little guys outrank them in terms of cuteness too. Naturally skittish and sweet, many swear by having these little lap lizards for companionship, and gardening help.
Veneberra live in family groups in the wild, whether it be the family they were raised with and or raised, or found family they've collected by wandering around the Lush Caverns after leaving or losing their original family group. Companionship is important for Veneberra to thrive, which is why this pet may not be ideal for you if you aren't home to care for them very often! Alternatively, one might also just get their scaly friends another pal, such as another Veneberra or a Moppet or even Cravic that gets along with Veneberra and their constant need for cuddles.
Wild Veneberra are often quite skittish and easily intimidated by anything bigger than them. They can be startled by anything, from the cave breeze blowing a bit too hard and rustling the leaves of the Lush Caverns, to catching a glimpse of their own tail behind them. When a Veneberra is frightened or startled, they plant their feet and flare and close their glowing-flower-shaped tail tip. This action is usually accompanied by these little reptiles opening their mouths, and sticking out their tongues in an attempt to frighting their would-be attackers. Though this works on other wildlife, Kwillian are very rarely intimidated by a Veneberra's flashy display of fear.
Domesticated Veneberra don't have quite the same extreme reaction as their wild counterparts. Instead they're more likely to hide under or behind furniture if startled by something such as a new pet, or strange Kwillian they don't know. They tend to be sweet and affectionate, nuzzling and rubbing against their owners and other pets they consider to be friends. This only applies if the Veneberra was raised in good conditions, it's still possible for Domestic Veneberra to be incredibly skittish and reactive if raised in a frightening environment.
Veneberra lay clutches of Two (2) to Five (5) eggs at a time after being bred, often in nests made of stones and leaves that they've spent a long time carefully constructing, however occasionally in soft plush nests purchased by their owners. The eggs incubate for fifty to sixty days before hatching into adorable little baby Veneberra, also known as “blebs”. Baby Veneberra are more or less harmless, horns and claws too dull and soft to cause much if any damage, which makes them easy targets for hungry predators. This vulnerability is like the reason that parent Veneberra become fiercely protective of their babies and/or eggs, screeching and clawing at would-be predators to scare them away from their babies. Said screeching has been described as “headache inducing” and “borderline painful” to hear, so it's best to leave baby Veneberra and their eggs alone in the wild.
Baby Veneberra will adopt traits their parents had like all creatures, inheriting either of the parents ears, tails, colors, and etcetera. Most ethical Veneberra breeders are incredibly careful to breed only healthy traits that won't cause the Veneberra issues in the future. However, it is possible to find some odd and downright unhealthy traits being bred into domesticate Veneberra in the pursuit of money. Veneberra can be bred together using the regular breeding item, Pet Breeding Supplies, the holder of the item must own a Veneberra who is the opposite sex of the Veneberra they'd like to breed to. This can be another users Veneberra, as long as permission is gained, or one of Mildreds Stud Pets, who she's willing to loan out for a fee!
Moppets are the second most popular pet in Alutar, and for good reason too! These flighted-feline-friends are quite the companion animal, useful for not only the hunters and trackers of the world; but family homes, too!!
Domesticated?: Yes
Rarity: Uncommon
Tempermant: Neutral
Moppet are a cat-like mammalian species often found curled up in a Kwillians lap purring away their woes. These cuddly critters can be found all over homes in Altuar, but also in the Twisting Forests, Frosted peaks high up in the mountains, and plenty more places across Altuar and maybe even the world. These intelligent creatures are capable of forming complex bonds with not only their own kind but also other species, such as other pets, and of course Kwillian. Most Kwillian who own a moppet would swear by how friendly and loyal they are, and useful too.
Moppet are the perfect house pets for ground-bound Kwillian, and make amazing soaring buddies for those with wings who are willing to take to the sky. Most often these adorable little wind-aligned creatures are seen on the shoulders of scouts or flying around their owners heads. Some Moppets are more in tune with their magic abilities than others, able to not only use their magic to boost themselves, but also use their magic to put wind into the wings of their companions. Whether those companions be other Moppets, or the Kwillian that own them, the particularly talented of these adorable little feline-esque critters have a wide array of wind abilities.
The behavior of moppets has a wide varying range, but most often the winged kitties are rather neutral, but be warned! Moppets hold grudges like any good feline-creature, and crossing one will likely end up with it distrusting you for the rest of it's, or your, life. Building a bond with your Moppet to prevent it from becoming distrustful is incredibly important in their raising process. Their upbringing decides their temperament later in life, whether they're standoffish with new Kwillian or incredibly friendly with strangers is entirely dependent on how they were raised.
Moppets are obligate carnivores and should be fed a diet of mainly, if not only, meats and proteins such as egg. Vegetables and fruits should be avoided in their diet, and grains should never be given to Moppets as it can cause things such as allergic reactions, upset stomach, or weight gain. It's better to stick to a meat only dinosaur for these feline-friends, and avoid anything that a predator animal normally wouldn't encounter in the wild. It's also important to remember that though they may be little, Moppets need plenty of space. Whether this be their own indoor or outdoor enclosure, or being taken on frequent walks- or flights- outside. Better to take them out for a walk than risk your furniture being torn to pieces by an angry Moppet!
Moppet's have litters of One (1) to Six (6) kits at a time, making nests in the hollows of trees or shelves in rockface to keep their babies elevated away from predators on the ground. Moppets usually take sixty to seventy days to give birth to their litters, and the kittens take around six to eight weeks to become weaned from their parents. Once a Moppet is weaned, their wings are often developed enough for them to go on short flights with Mom and Dad, who stick around until the kittens are big and strong enough to defend themselves. Moppet kits aren't seen without at least one if not both of their parents hanging around supervising them until they reach almost a year of age. Only then do the parent Moppets start the process of having another litter.
Like other pets, baby Moppet will inherit their traits, colors, and patterns from their parents. Moppet have a great many different traits that differentiate the from one another, from simply changes to their eyes and different wings, to adding back legs to the usually two legged creatures. Moppet can be bred together using the regular breeding item, Pet Breeding Supplies, much like Veneberra can. The holder of the Breeding Supplies must be the one to submit the breeding, and the breeding must take place between a Moppet and they own and a Moppet of the opposite sex. This can be another users Moppet as long as permission is given, or one of Mildreds Stud Pets, who's she's willing to loan out for a fee!
Cravics are low in quantity and high in demand, making them quite the expensive companion! These little creatures are medium sized canid-esque seemingly mammalian cave dwellers, found roaming wild in the caverns and tunnels below Altuar; and occasionally in Kwillians homes!
Domesticated?: Yes
Rarity: Rare
Tempermant: Neutral
Cravic are four legged pseudo-canines aligned with the fire element. Easily found in the deep caverns all around Altuar, Cravic can be found wherever the temperature is sweltering and magma seeps from the walls. Cravic are one of few fire-aligned creatures to be completely immune to heat, able to wade through pools of lava and quite thoroughly enjoying basking in the boiling heat of the underground. Though they're sometimes considered pests by miners who aren't a fan of having their metal go missing, most Kwillian view the cave creatures as adorable- and more importantly, exotic- pets!
These quadrupeds are often solitary, only coming together for breeding or to gang up on larger threats that might hurt all the Cravic in an area. Aside from that though these creatures avoid one another if they can, and sometimes even fight one another for more territory space. This isn't their most interesting feature though, the most interesting thing about Cravics is their unaturally high internal temperature, specifically in their stomach. The temperature inside of a Cravics stomach reaches high enough temperatures to create steel, and forge-masters often find this a particularly useful ability for making alloys and melting small amounts of metal. Just watch out, as a Cravic with undigested metal still in its stomach may spit it back up at any perceived threats that draw too near.
Cravic vary widely in temperament, from those that run away from the wind and hide under the nearest piece of furniture, to those that are willing to charge threats head on without hesitation. Most often described as “full of personality”, these pseudo-canines make great companions for anything from the single solitary Kwillian, to families with many children, as long as a Cravic with an appropriate temperament is found for them. Though it's important to keep in mind that Cravic are rather intelligent, and can be mischievous or destructive without meaning to be. From digging through drawers and cupboards to trying to dig into walls. It's recommended to ensure your Cravic gets at least three solid hours of exercise and play a day to keep them healthy, happy, and calm.
Most often a Cravics diet consists of mainly two things, lots and lots of metal (the most common ones Cravic eat being Iron and Aluminum), and even more meats from cave creatures they snap up during their searches for more metal to feast upon. It's recommended to skew their food even more towards meat rather than metal in captivity to avoid fearful regurgitation that could hurt someone. It's also simply cheaper to feed them more meat than metal, as metal is a fair bit more expensive than it's more bloody red substitute. It's very important not to feed Cravic too many greens if any at all, as most vegetation will severely upset a cravics stomach and may end up with a trip to the emergency vet to get their stomachs pumped. Probably better to stick to what they're meant to eat.
Cravic lay anywhere from Three to Seven eggs, however usually only One (1) to Four (4) eggs in a single clutch of eggs end up being viable and hatching. The eggs are hard and dull colored, resembling large oddly shaped stones when encountered underground. Which may explain why Cravic often surround their eggs with similarly sized stones, these stones are incredibly hot and aid in the incubation of the eggs alongside serving to camoflauge them from predators. Cravic eggs must always be incubated at incredibly high temperatures, usually done by Cravic laying their clutches near magma vents in the ground. In captivity, Kwillian will instead use magical items and oven-like contraptions to keep the heat in to ensure the eggs incubate properly without losing any heat. Despite these efforts, eggs in captivity still hatch less than those in the wild, likely due to the inability to mimic the heat of lava deep underground.
Like other pets, baby Cravic take after their parents in appearance, inheriting their ears, lamp colors, placements, and more from their parents. Unlike their other pet counterparts though, Cravic can only be bred together with the Cravic Egg Incubator, an item only available through raffle or, very occasionally, available for purchase from the Traveling Merchant unlike it's sister item which is purchased from Mildred at her pet emporium. However Cravic also aren't as limited in breeding as their other pet counterparts, as there is no such thing as male or female cravic. Instead both Cravic are capable of breeding together and each will produce eggs, meaning breeding two Cravic Together will produce Two (2) to Eight (8) babies. The owner of the breeding item can use it to breed any Cravic they own to another Cravic, whether they be owned by another user and permission was given or whether it's one of Mildreds Stud Pets, who she's willing to loan out for a fee!
Semi-Avian and Semi-Mammalian these little creatures are sure to steal the hearts of many- and fill the stomachs of the rest. Dual purpose, used for both meat and eggs, Pick-Picks are found on almost every farm across Altuar.
Domesticated?: Yes
Rarity: Common
Tempermant: Skittish
Pick-Pick are a rather small and semi-avian and rabbit-esque species of farm creature found being kept as livestock, and even occasionally as pets, all over the continent of Altuar. This creature has however always been found on the continent, even before Kwillian ever existed! This long-standing staple of Altuar somehow survived the collapse, though nobody knows how, and still stands steadfast and strong today. In fact, this is so wildly known that many believe Pick-Pick was domesticated for two reasons. Reason one is that it was an old-world species just like Kwillians were, and they wished for companionship Reason two, of course, is that they are easy to farm and have delicious meat and eggs that many Kwillian everywhere enjoy eating.
They are still sometimes kept as pets, though they don't have as much magical utility as say a Moppet or Cravic they're still cute little buggers. Not to mention, some of the little guys have big personalities, and a lot to say about it, something many Kwillian find endearing.
Usually, this creature is extremely timid and skittish, which is far more easily seen in its wild counterparts. Though Captive ones have learned to more or less not bolt when their owner approaches they will still run if anything gets near that's bigger than another Pick-Pick that isn't their beloved owner and food bringer. This instinct is a good example of self-preservation, something a Pick-Pick would use in the wild to flee from dangerous predators that might hurt it. Of course, they aren't always timid and flighty, especially not if there are young babies, or heavens forbid a broody mother involved. Many female Pick-Pick become aggressive when brooding eggs or protecting babies, biting, kicking, scratching, and generally just attacking any perceived threat to her young.
Even the most well-trained Pick-Pick can become ornery and begin to stomp at their owners to warn them to back off away from their nest. Males display the behavior tenfold, actively chasing anything they deem as a threat and emitting angered screaming noises. Angry behavior like this is usually accompanied by the Pick-Pick puffing up their neck feathers in an attempt to make themselves look larger and more intimidating. Most farmers find this cute, at least they do until their Pick-Picks are chasing them around trying to take off a couple of their toes in the process!
These large swine-like creatures are covered in quills. Whether it be a male with colorful quills and plumage or a female with small black quills and minimal feathering, these creatures can be rather tempermental. Better have a snack and a hand for rubbing bellies if you plan to tame the savage beast!
Domesticated?: Yes
Rarity: Common
Tempermant: Neutral
Quillboars are a type of swine (or pig) kept on farms over the continent for their meat as well as their beautiful quills and feathers. Though they can be found on farms all over the continent, they're most popular in the nation of West Halbor where their wild counterparts can be found wandering. They haven't been around as long as Pick-Pick, but they'd be giving the smaller creatures a run for their money if they could produce eggs like them. Instead, most Quillboars are typically slaughtered and harvested when they reach adulthood, especially the males of the species. Though both male and female Quillboars possess the signature quills and feathers that their species is known for, only Males have quills and feathers large and bright enough to be used in the creation of jewelry, decorations, or even clothing!
This means that while most males are processed during adulthood, females are often kept for more breeding stock to, well, produce more males! Farmers also often keep the best of their litters in a year, judging the “best” based on their color, quill length, size, amount of feathering, and feather length of course.
Quillboars are, much like pigs, a rather temperamental species of livestock. From head butting to biting down with their massive tusks, they aren't afraid to let it be known that they're king of the castle. Most farmers interact daily with their Boarlets (baby Quillboars) to ensure that the adults are friendly, or at least as friendly as possible. This typically means the occasional bottle feeding, picking up, petting, giving treats, and everything else you can do to get a baby animal to trust you.
Quillboars don't just attack without warning, instead, they'll first begin to growl and smack their tusks against lower teeth as a warning to back off! This warning is best heeded if a Kwillian wants to avoid being charged at and knocked over, headbutted, or even bitten. An adult Quillboar is a dangerous threat, and shouldn't be provoked under any circumstances. Even adolescents of the species can take a whole hand off of a Kwillian if they feel so inclined, or get a little over-excited about a handful of treats. The one thing that calms down all Quillboars? Mud, and as much of it as possible. There's nothing a Quillboar likes more than laying down and rolling around in the mud, so keep it on hand!
Spindle Hounds, the hunters of the Lush Caverns, and the end of many a Kwillian who've roamed their territory. These eyeless quadrupeds excel at tracking through scent and taste, and are far more likely to tear off a limb than they are to roll over belly rubs...
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Uncommon
Tempermant: Hostile
Tall, long, and built for hunting, Spindle Hounds are one of the many threats that Kwillian can encounter when exploring the world of Altuar. Found exclusively in Lush Caverns, these hounds are unlike most other predators who roam Altuar. Spindle Hounds lack eyes completely, and are also mostly deaf. Instead of conventional hunting Instead, these hounds rely solely on smell and taste, licking the ground and anything else they can in order to memorize tastes to track. The scenting (and tasting) capabilities of Spindle Hounds are completely unmatched, letting them track week-old track through taste and smell.
Spindle Hounds vary in appearance, having different tail lengths, ear sizes, limb lengths, and the like! The only thing that stays consistent between the hounds is their coloring of rich browns, and vibrant leafy greens to match the Lush Caverns around them. Spindle Hounds can even begin to grow moss or small mushrooms on them, better camouflaging them to match their surroundings of the Caverns.
Spindle Hounds are incredibly aggressive, and should always be viewed as a threat. It is not wise to attempt to approach or, Leht forbid, touch a spindle hound. There have been many attempts to tame Spindle Hounds to use them for their tracking ability, however, they have proved to be too wild and it is categorically impossible to tame them down to the point of no threat. Thankfully with their need to track through scenting and tasting, there are many ways to avoid an attack from these creatures.
Most defend from Spindle Hound attacks by utilizing a rather odd weapon to confuse the creatures. Spices thrown on the ground or mixed in with water or any smelly weapon such as perfume or rotten food are all great ways to defend against a Spindle Hound. If they can't taste or smell you they become much less formidable opponents and can be dispatched by the swing of a sword or firing of a bow. Just be sure to hit it with your smell of choice near the nose, or else you'll have an angry Spindle Hound and nowhere to run.
Grambles are a reptillian creature found dwelling in the marshiest areas of Metioth, whether that be the wetlands above ground or dwelling in pools of water in the Lush Caverns deep below. They all have two things in common though, their neck sacs full of noxious fumes, and their adorably squishy faces!
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Rare
Tempermant: Passive
Grambles are small, lizard-like creatures that reside in swampy or marshy regions. They're small and compact creatures, typically no bigger than a chicken. Grambles are low to the ground and covered from head to toe in spikes and scales. In terms of color, they resemble most often the same swamp water they reside in. It's not uncommon to see their backs covered in algae due to their habit of sitting still in the water for extended periods of time.
Though they may be cute, they are quite literally unable to be domesticated as they are quite deadly, packing a punch with the toxic gas that they can breathe out. This, however, doesn't deter the most foolhardy of Kwillians, leading to many a doctor's visit or, in some unfortunate cases, deaths. It is advised to not attempt to keep them as pets due to their noxious fumes, no matter how cute they may be.
Grambles like to hide away in swampy water with their eyes and noses sticking out, unmoving, observing the environment around them. Frankly, they aren't actually seen doing much else, leading to many unfortunate Kwillians approaching them. Whether on accident due to their immaculate camouflage or on purpose to simply inspect the adorable little creatures closer.
However, these small creatures are more defensive than they may seem at first. Grambles are always ready to breathe out a flume of toxic gas from their throat pouch at those who approach too close. This gas can make an adult Kwillian very ill when inhaled and even potentially kill them if they inhale enough of the noxious fumes. It is advised for young Kwillings to stay away from them, lest they meet an unfortunate, painful end.
Beautiful and elegant birds found roaming the deserts. These fabulous creatures are far more dangerous than their fancy looks might let on, and have a few tricks up their sleeves- or rather under their wings!
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Uncommon
Tempermant: Neutral
Luxraptors are a tall species of terrestrial bird, meaning they're incapable of flight and instead spend their days on the sandy ground of desert-like areas. Ranging in color from pure white to almost black the elegant avians are known for their beautiful eye feathers and long trailing tails. Despite their lack of flight Luxraptors have an almost ten foot wingspan, giving them the largest wingspan for a terrestrial species in the Kwillians world. Often, though, the easiest way to spot a Luxraptor from a distance is arguably their most defining and distinct feature; their three and a half foot long legs.
This species of bird is often found patrolling the desert or desert-like areas with their heads low to the ground, watching out for lizards or snakes to eat. Though reptillians are their preferred diet it's also not uncommon to find these long-legged creatures eating the eggs of other egg laying species, or even the eggs of other Luxraptors. As all birds without teeth, Luxraptors don't bother to tear or rip their prey to pieces to make swallowing easier, and instead will simply swallow anything they intend to eat completely whole. Their strong stomach acids can dissolve egg shells, bone, and even mouthfuls of sand they often end up ingesting with their prey.
Luxraptors may be beautiful, but beware! Their beauty is only outmatched by their easily riled up temper, which coupled with a razor shark beak has caused many injuries to Kwillian. Luxraptors are ornery creatures and territorial, making show of flaring their wings and arching their necks in warning to Kwillian who draw too close to their stomping grounds. This temper is only increased tenfold when nests are involved, which makes their eggs a delicacy as they're almost always guarded by a pair of angry birds ready to make anything that threatens their offspring bleed.
Domestication attempts for these birds are still ongoing, but have so far been unsuccessful due to the simple fact of: Luxraptors just don't like Kwillians. No matter how much food is offered, or even if they're raised from babies, they'll become defensive and territorial over what they consider their land. Many would-be Luxraptor Tamers have missing digits or even eyes to show for their efforts in attempts to domesticate the beautiful creatures. It's best to leave these beauties in the wild where they belong, and maybe best to leave them alone, too.
Large crystalline lizards from the depths of caverns. These reptiles may seem cute and appealing as a pet at first, but be warned! They may not bite nor bark but they will tear up every piece of furniture you own, and also the walls, and floors, and also this, and that…
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Uncommon
Tempermant: Passive
Crystal skinks are common, sleek-scaled reptilians that are partially composed of precious minerals with short legs and a long body & tail. A crystal skink's precious mineral is displayed through a faceted diamond shape on its forehead connected to 3 long streaks that run all the way down to its tail and bands on their legs. They range from about One (1) to Four (3) feet in length excluding their tail and Two (2) to Five (5) including their tail. They are primarily found in or around caves living in a small den or opening of a cave wall and are able to live for up to 40 years in the oldest recorded case.
Crystal skinks are omnivorous and will eat most plants they come across but primarily eat insects and small mammals such as mice. Another thing Crystal Skinks often eat is precious minerals. A crystal skink is not born with a predetermined signature precious mineral, instead, their signature mineral is determined by what mineral they consume most often and their mineral parts will slowly change over time to reflect their diet. They have no front teeth however they do have strong molars used for crushing rocks and minerals of all kinds.
Crystal Skinks all tend to be generally relaxed and unbothered creatures in any environment they find themselves in. This is thanks to the fact that they have few if any natural predators. After all, not many other creatures are able to digest the minerals that make up a good bulk of the crystal skinks and their meat is generally unappetizing and tastes like dirt and rocks, not to mention that they are also incredibly heavy. If a crystal skink ever feels threatened, it will usually resort to whipping its heavy tail and then attempt to scurry away to safety.
There have been attempts at keeping crystal skinks as pets due to their lax temperament however they ended up being more of an additional burden rather than a cool pet to keep. Their carefree attitude will lead them to doing whatever they please, crushing almost everything under their weight, and due to their more solitary nature, they'll more often than not stay away from you by digging away into your walls, floor, or yard. So attempts to keep them as pets were quickly abandoned. Typically, when mating the male will head out as soon as his job is done and the female will raise the young until they're old enough to go off on their own.
Malrattics are one of Meitoth's most common and widespread pest animals, and are omens of illness and death. They swarm towns and eat as much as they can, and anything that threatens them is barraged with sickening pathogens.
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Common
Tempermant: Skittish
Malrattics are small, hairless, scavenging invertebrates. Instead of fur, they secrete a coating of colorful mucus. They use this mucus to pick up, control and weaponize disease-causing pathogens. The pathogens Malrattics can capture and use with their mucus include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microscopic parasites. Malrattics spread these diseases to would-be predators as a defense mechanism.
Unfortunately, Kwillians are also affected by Malrattics' weaponized illnesses. To Kwillians, Malrattic-borne diseases can be potentially lethal. Most Kwillians come into contact with Malrattics when Malrattics scavenge the food and refuse of Kwillian settlements or infest Kwillian homes in the winter. In Kwillian culture, the presence of Malrattics - especially in towns and other inhabited places - is a bad omen. Malrattics are the heralds of plague, famine and death.
Malrattics gather and travel in colonies, scavenging, playing, raising pups, and looking for shelter together. These colonies can get quite large, due to their disease-riddled, brightly colored mucus coating warding off most predators. Colonies of Malrattics travel frequently due to their ravenous appetites depleting food sources quickly. This is fine in most wild habitats that can recover and even thrive from Malrattic activity, but when colonies visit Kwillian towns, famine frequently follows.
There are some animals, however, that are clever enough to hunt and prey on Malrattics - including Moppets. Malrattics can't swim, and water washes away their protective coating of mucus. Moppets are able to take advantage of this, by washing Malrattics in water before eating them. Kwillians also use water as a form of pest control against Malrattics. Malrattics also avoid cold temperatures and prefer warm climates.
Comet Shrimp are vibrant, glowing, and adorable creatures of the Underwater Caverns- they're also quite a tasty meal! Easy to catch and practically everywhere inside the caverns, Comet Shrimp are an easy and well-known snack to many a kwillian across the land! Just, stay away from the big ones…
Domesticated?: No
Rarity: Common
Tempermant: Neutral
Comet Shrimp are a species of crustacean most commonly found in the Underwater Caverns and easily distinguished by their dark blue bodies paired with bright, luminescent crests and adornments around their eyes, legs, and tails. Juvenile Comet Shrimp range from 6 inches to 1 foot in length and can grow in size to over 15 feet once fully matured, though some of the largest Comet Shrimp recorded have measured over 3 times that size!
Readily abundant and easily caught when young, Comet Shrimp are a favorite food of any fish-loving kwillian and are eaten in a multitude of different dishes across Altuar, though their localization within the Underwater Caverns makes them a bit hard to come by. Comet Shrimp are a popular export of Shorebreeze and easily a staple food to the residents there.
Comet Shrimp are omnivorous, feeding primarily on bioluminescent plants and algae and the occasional aquatic insect when they get the chance. Their colorful diet lends to the bright, glowing adornments on their body, which come in a variety of neon colors that help them blend into the vibrant undergrowth on the cavern floors.
Juvenile Comet Shrimp are fast swimmers but easy prey, and most are either caught by fishermen or hunted by bigger predators before they can reach adulthood. Those that do survive to adulthood, however, grow large enough to be able to stand their own against almost anything that seeks to harm them, including fisherman, and most kwillian know better than to mess with a full-grown Comet Shrimp, should they want to leave the water alive!
