Godhood: How does it Work?

Many Kwillian think the deities to be all-powerful, all-knowing, and polarized in what they are and what they do. However, this isn't the case at all. In fact, the gods that all Kwillian know and either revere or hate, are not as in control of their abilities as many may think. This is for multiple reasons, the first and more important one being: thought.

Thought powers all magic and abilities, concentration, actively thinking, and whimsically wishing all are ways of thought. Though Kwillians thoughts are only powerful enough to channel the magic in their gems, Gods are another story. As all gods are possessing of multiple gems and often massive stores of primordial power, their thoughts have more impact on the world. When a god wonders why they feel something when others do not, that feeling can begin to creep into Kwillian life, allowing them to feel as the god does. Even passing thoughts and whimsical imaginations can impact the Kwillian world.

All Deities branched off of somewhere, Leht and Beht from somewhere unknown, and many others from Leht, Beht, or some other source. Thought it takes more than a powerful and dominant god thinking to spawn a new and lesser deity. Lesser Deities require concentration and will, a will to make a new life and let it thrive, and a will to create new godhood. Many Lesser Deities are created for a purpose, such as overseeing a certain element of magic, hunting down bad things in the Kwillian's world, and much more.

Not all Deities are capable of making new life at all, in fact, most aren't capable of making any sort of new physical creature, or even upgrades like those that Heartfelt and King of the Hunt have made. The ability to create new life has only ever been demonstrated by Leht, Beht, and oddly the King of the Hunt. Leht and Beht made Kwillians, and many other Deities, creatures, plants, and more. King of the Hunt, of course, made his Hounds of the Night, Upgrades, and even diseases…

History of the World and Great Collapse

Long ago, when the world was actually new, Kwillians were nowhere to be found on the planet they now call home. Leht and Beht had lived in harmony in their realms, viewing the planet and making their own small changes. Adding this, changing that. Both were in a way happy, able to express what they wanted, to think how they wanted, to create what they would. However, one day, Leht began to think to herself, “All these creatures we've made, and yet none can speak like us, none can think like us,” and she was right.

All of the creatures they'd made together and none of them were truly like them, able to think and speak. Leht had an idea, one that would take two wills, two halves of a whole idea, to create. So she went to her brother and counterparty, Beht. She told him of her idea, to create these creatures, these Kwillian, even if only to see what might happens. Beht was against the idea, his paradise half of the planet was wrought with thorns and danger, hazards that would prevent the Kwillian from living there. “No,” he said to his sister, his counterpart, “No. I will not ever give up my paradise for your dream of thought. It's not what is fair.”

Leht left her brother, but she did not heed him well enough, she did not read between the lines back then. She merely thought what wonderful fun her idea would be, and so, she made them anyway. Brought to life by her loving thoughts, the Kwillian were happy at first. They thrived, learned, and thought. Most importantly, they began to invent. They invented things neither Leht nor Beht had ever thought of, and Beht soon began to take interest in the little Kwillian. Anger, Sorrow, Envy, feelings that spread like wildfire as the Kwillians unlocked new thoughts, and new ways of interacting due to Behts will over all of the planet. Fights broke out, illness began to spread, and the negatives began to rear. Yet the negatives were soon understood, illnesses less so than emotions, but understood nonetheless.

The Kwillian thrived for hundreds of years, and they spread. All over the continent, all over the blonde, all over the world that Leht and Beht had once built together. As they built and expanded they began to forget the god that had made them, the gods that had adored them. They ripped up Lehts work first, tearing her green earth up to build cities of chrome that reflected the heavens back into the skies. They ripped up where the two gods had worked together, they hunted their creatures more, and they took for granted what was given. Then, at the beginning of the end, they began to rip through the landscape, pets, and creatures, that Beht had made.

This enraged the Deity, he screamed his fury at the Kwillian for destroying what he had made. He did not care that they were hazardous to the Kwillian, he did not care that they were obstacles to life and expansion, it was his paradise. The god would not ever give up his paradise for his sister's dream of thought, it simply wasn't fair. Beht inflicted pain on the Kwillian, splitting the earth, and causing black smog to belch from the ground. Tainted earth began to spread, corrupted plants began to twist, and storms of magic that ravaged the planet began to rage as the Deity made his anger known. Kwillian ran for shelter in buildings first, and when those began to come down and folk began to die en mass… they moved below the ground.

As Kwillian took shelter below ground to shield themselves from the god's rages, a battle began to take place in a world unseen, a battle only known to Kwillian through the word of the Deity Leht, and all of the minor Deities she's brought to life. Leht took a stand against her brother, despite all his anger and despite the fact that she knew that he would turn that fury on her for her decisions. It wasn't the fault of her creations, it was her fault alone, and it was blame and guilt to bear. Soon, the two deities began to clash, fighting as Leht tried to calm her brother's wrath and get him to see reason, to calm and return to as it was. Unfortunately, no such compromise could be made.

Leht was forced to lock her brother and counterpart, Beht, away in his dimension. Forever.

Though Beht has been banished from the world Kwillian live in now, unable to inflict the mass damages he did that day of the collapse, his dark influence seeps through cracks between worlds. Corrupted Creatures, Flux Storms, The King of the Hunt, and much more have still been brought on by Beht's untamed fury, leaking into the world. Trapped though he may be, he isn't gone, and he never will be. After all, gods can never be killed, no matter how minor, as far as we know…

The Deities

Click one of the buttons above to begin!

Leht

Deity of light, mother to all, Leht is a being of purity and love. She views all life as her children, regardless of whether the life was spawned from her own thoughts, or from her brother Beht's. Leht adores Kwillian, self-admittedly favoring them over other creatures. She only speaks to a few select Kwillian, those being the heads of the Church of Leht.

Beht

Deity of darkness, the embodiment of agony, Beht is a being made of corruption, hate, and pain. He is the original source of all bad things, from injury to illness and negative thoughts. This deity hates Kwillian, viewing them as the reason his beautiful paradise was ruined. It is said that Beht sometimes speaks to the Gravewalker, as the time for Specters Haunt draws near. He's been locked in his own realm, for hundreds of years.

Heartfelt

Major Deity of passion and fertility, Heartfelt has an entire month dedicated to celebrating him and all that he does. The Month of Heartfelt is a month-long celebration of Kwillian indulging in their passions, and a time of extremely increased fertility for all Kwillian, allowing them to reproduce a lot more during the month. Many Kwillian revere Heartfelt, for he encourages the spread of love and acceptance, scorning violence and hatred. This has led to Communes of Heartfelt appearing, and even troupes of Kwillian who go from town to town to spread his good message and receive donations for the communes.

King of the Hunt

The King of the Hunt, Father of the Hounds of the Night, He Who Makes them Rot. King of the Hunt has many different names, all of them accurate to his personality and being. Born to hunt down bad things in the Kwillians world such as Night Terrors in order to tear them to shreds. This deity is also the origin of both Beast Blood diseases, having caused both in blind rages as Kwillian hunted and killed his Hounds of the Night. Due to his reaction to these Hounds being killed, it's best to avoid the Hounds altogether and let them hunt as they please. Lest you draw his ire…

Novian

This odd entity isn't from this world as far as anyone can tell. Lacking a gem, Novian instead is long and willowy with an almost angelic quality about them. They are credited as the entity who influenced Galatians, making them what they are today. Despite being heavily associated with Galatians, Novian does not share their haughty ‘holier than thou' attitude. Instead, they've been described as a silent, watchful, and completely comforting presence. Many describe dreaming of Novian with a far away look on their face and tears in their eyes as they describe a feeling of longing and hope…

Firestarter

Harbinger of the Fire element, Firestarter was the deity made to watch over the element and help direct and control it. Anything involving the power of flames, such as Cravics with their affinity to Heat, Dwellers, and even natural disasters like Wildfires are watched over by her, the Firestarter. She is as energetic and wild as fire is, playing pranks on other gods and getting mad at the drop of a hat.

Wavemaker

The deity of the Water element and all things related, Wavemaker was created to watch over his element and help direct and control it. Many may mistake his patience for indifference, however, this deity can be as serene as a still pond, or as ferocious and powerful as the ocean in all its magnificence, and deadlines. Wavemaker watches over creatures of the water, and grants safe passage for boats in his waters.

Windbreaker

Whimsical and childish, the deity of Air and all things related to it. Windbreaker goes with the flow, watching over their element as they do, however rarely intervening with what the wind decides to do. Though they observe creatures such as Moppets and adjust airflows when absolutely needed, the deity is happy to take the back seat and let the wind blow as it will.

Groundshaker

Steadfast and unchanging, this is the Earth elements deity. Groundshaker is larger than all of the other minor deities. She watches over all things earth related, from the deep caverns that reach to the core, to the topsoil covered in growing grass. Groundshaker's temper is best described as explosive. When this deity is angry the very ground shakes…
