Spectral Abilities

Novice

Lift

Flick your hand and lift any small object or creature into the air.


Uses:

With just a flick of the hand, a Spectral Kwillian can lift any small object or creature directly into the air! It's only for a short time, but it's a fun way to impress your friends. Maybe even be the life of the party! This ability is definitely one of the harder novice abilities a Spectral Kwillian can learn, as well as one of the tamest.

Limitations:

The object being lifted has to be quite small for a beginner! Like a quill, or creature wise something like a bug. Even lifting something as tiny as a bug takes so much concentration for a Kwillian that the smallest thing can break that focus and make the object fall! With more practice a Kwillian can get a bit stronger and start lifting bigger objects, but even then it's hard to lift anything bigger than, say, a book.

Instill Nightmares

Touch a sleeping creature or Kwillian and turn their dreams from delightful to frightful…


Uses:

Instill Nightmares does exactly as the name suggests. A Spectral Kwillian can simply touch any sleeping creature or Kwillian, and instantly turn their dreams to nightmares! This ability is rather rarely used, since its main use is really just making anyone you don't like, whether after a petty fight or a mortal enemy, upset with nightmares.

Limitations:

Though a Kwillian is able to instill the nightmare, they aren't able to choose exactly what nightmares the unfortunate recipient receives! So, the contents of the nightmare is limited to whatever the recipient's brain comes up with to make said nightmare. Plus, it requires a physical touch, so you both need to be close to said sleeping creature or Kwillian, and be able to touch them and somehow not wake them up!

Frightful Hallucinations

Create terrors in another's mind, making them see horrible things that aren't really there.


Uses:

Stand too close to a Spectral Kwillian who may have something against you, and you may find yourself seeing horrors that aren't really there! Spectral Kwillian are able to tap into the mind of another and create terrors beyond their comprehension in their mind. Nothing's actually physically being created, but to the unfortunate recipient they feel like what they're seeing is really there!

Limitations:

The distance a Kwillian has to be to actually cause hallucinations to whoever they wish is rather small. A Spectral Kwillian tends to need to be about 3-5 feet away to actually tap into another's mind. As well, the user isn't capable of controlling what hallucinations the recipient actually sees. Whatever they see is whatever their mind conjures up that they consider their worst nightmare.

Acolyte

Talk with the Dead

Commune with the spirits of the departed, both loved ones and strangers.


Uses:

Take a trip to a graveyard, and a Spectral Kwillian can tap into the spirit world and commune with the dead all around. They can communicate with both loved ones and strangers alike, though whether or not the spirits are willing to communicate back is another story! Definitely useful for Kwillians to find out the truth of what happened to victims of heinous crimes to put the criminal away, if they're willing to talk!

Limitations:

This ability takes an immense amount of concentration in order to actually hold your connection to the spirit world and hold longer conversations. Any small distraction can pull the user out of focus! Plus, there's no forcing a spirit to actually talk with you. So, while you can connect and attempt to commune, sometimes you may not hear anything back!

Free Float

Freely float above the ground, becoming weightless and untethered to earthly concerns.


Uses:

Who needs gravity when you're a Spectral Kwillian, capable of untethering yourself from this physical plane and freely floating into the air! You become completely weightless and free, letting yourself drift like a spirit and forgetting all earthly concerns. Just drift around and enjoy yourself!

Limitations:

This ability only lets you float, not physically be able to pass through any objects. As well, you aren't able to float very high! Masters of this ability can potentially float to the tops of small buildings, and no higher. Plus, there's a lot of concentration involved in keeping yourself afloat! One wrong distraction, and you're falling back down!

Make Object Ethereal

Touch an object and temporarily turn it ethereal, unable to be touched, or moved.


Uses:

With a touch of your hand, take any object you wish and turn it ethereal temporarily! Though it will appear as if the object is still there as usual, Kwillians will not be able to touch or move the object! A fun little way to prank your friends, or make it to where someone can't grab something they're not supposed to.

Limitations:

The effects of this ability are, as stated, temporary. The more experienced a Kwillian is with this ability, the longer they're able to keep an object ethereal. Plus, while the object is in its ethereal state, the user isn't able to move the object either! This ability takes more magic to perform the larger an object is as well, while a handful of marbles may be easy to make vanish in a snap, a larger object like a vase or chair might take a bit longer to become fully incorporeal.

Professional

Seize Control

Seize control of a small creature and make it do your bidding.


Uses:

Seize Control can be used to temporarily take over the body of a small creature, and make it do as you bid. Most use this ability to puppet around animals for the circus, control mice to figure out where they're coming from, or simply for malicious entertainment. Young Kwillian often start by practicing on small insects, and working their way up to lizards, and eventually small mammals such as pick-picks. There aren't many non-malicious uses to this ability, though most Kwillian do feel guilty for using it. Most.

Limitations:

A Kwillian cannot control another living being for long without beginning to feel exhausted and lose magic reserves. Seize Control can only be used for at max a toal of five minutes before the caster must stop and recharge with sleep and food before the ability can be used again. The larger a creature, the shorter time they can be controlled. This ability is impossible to use on Kwillian, as they're far too large to be puppeted fully by magic. Seize Control also requires a massive amount of concentration on the creature to ensure it actually does what you want, or else it might just break free from your entrancement and run off!

Become Ethereal

Temporarily turn yourself ethereal, becoming unable to be touched, yet also unable to touch as well.


Uses:

This ability allow the caster to to temporarily become Ethereal, unable to be touched or injured by others or themselves. While ethereal, spectral aligned Kwillian can go through walls, people, and other such obstacles. This is most often used when a Kwillian encounters a barricade or cave in of some sort tht they need to get past as quickly as possible. It's also used to mess with friends and make them think you're a ghost.

Limitations:

Become Ethereal requires not only a mass amount of concentration to ensure you don't become solid while still inside a wall, but it requires massive amounts of magic too. The longer one uses the ability, the less stable it will become, until they'll eventually be forced back in solid state, no matter where they're standing. This ability is best used for short stints through thin walls, and not walking blindly into the side of a mountain hoping you'll come out the other end alright.

Manipulate Perception

Manipulate the Perception of another, making them see things that aren't there or removing things from their vision.


Uses:

Manipulate Perception is an ability most would assume to be used for nefarious purposes, however many simply using this ability to comfort others. Whether it be a crying child whos just has a nightmare needed a room full of soft bunnies, or letting someone perceive their loved one one last time. This ability has earned many spectral aligned Kwillian good reputation through using it to manipulate peoples perception to see positive things! Of course, it can also be used to make someone think there's spiders all over them…

Limitations:

Manipulate Perception requires at most a vivid imagination and at least a near photographic memory. The hallucinations and visions instilled by this ability rely entirely on the casters own memories and ability to make something seem real. To conjure up the image of another Kwill, deceased or still with the living, they must have seen paintings or the Kwill themselves to get the most accurate image. People very rarely look like their photos you know.
