Novice
Breathe Smoke
Inhale smoke in the air without an issue, breathing the contaminates back out flawlessly.
Uses:
Mostly used practically, Breathe Smoke has a couple uses. Whether it's a Kwillian trying to look cool for friends or entering an otherwise hazardous, smoky environment, they'll be able to breathe in smoke as if it were nothing with this ability. Often this ability is used by Kwillian on fire brigades, or who work in forges, able to easily filter the smoke from their work back out of their lungs.
Limitations:
When it comes to limitations, they're relatively simple. When breathing in smoke, you'll need to concentrate on inhaling it safely with magic. On the other hand, you're also affected by your own lung capacity. The more smoke you inhale, the less efficient filtering it back out is, meaning taking smaller more controlled breaths is the key to using this ability to its fullest extent
Condense Smoke
Condense any smoke from the air into a semi-solid substance for a period of time, able to be melded lightly into shapes.
Uses:
Condense Smoke is mainly used creatively. By pulling some smoke out of the air, the caster is able to condense it to a semi-solid state, able to be made into slight shapes and moved around. When this ability is released, the smoke reverts back to being completely gaseous, meaning one can condense smoke, only to release it and manipulate it around.
Limitations:
This ability requires smoke to be present in the air. Otherwise, the Kwillian in question would be unable to use this ability. Likewise, it requires concentration in order to be able to maintain this condensed and possibly shaped smoke. Due to the smoke still technically being gas, despite being condensed into a thicker cloud, this condensed smoke can still easily have a finger poked through it and isn't useful for anything that'd require a solid substance.
Manipulate Smoke
Manipulate Smoke in the air, creating shapes or moving it around the air from place to place.
Uses:
Taking smoke from the air, a Smoke Kwillian can manipulate it, making fun little shapes or even moving it from place to place! While this ability is generally used for fun with beginners, masters can actually use this ability to clear smoke from rooms, making it easier and safer for non-Smoke Kwillians to breathe!
Limitations:
This ability obviously requires smoke to be in the air already if a Kwillian is not in tune with their Acolyte abilities to make smoke themselves! As well, one needs quite a bit of focus and concentration in order to maintain control of the smoke. Especially if they're trying to manipulate a large amount of smoke at once!
Acolyte
Create Smoke
Inhale clean air and expel polluted smoke out through your mouth or nose, creating smoke from nothing.
Uses:
The gateway to most of the other abilities a Smoke Kwillian can learn, a Kwillian can inhale clean air and expel smoke out through their mouth or nose, completely creating it from nothing! Any Kwillian wanting to use their Smoke abilities creatively definitely need to master this ability as soon as they can!
Limitations:
Like all breathing magic, this is another one that is dependent on lung capacity! The longer you're able to hold your breath and keep the air in your lungs, the thicker the smoke exhaled will be. Don't push yourself though, trying to do too much at once when you aren't used to it can cause you to lose focus and end up in a coughing fit!
Lift with Smoke
Use smoke to lift small light objects from the ground and to your hand.
Uses:
Taking smoke, usually some created by oneself, a Kwillian can use the smoke to lift small, light objects off the ground to bring to their hands! No need to exhaust yourself getting up to grab that quill you left on another table, smoke can do it for you. This ability can also be used to knock the hats off friends or poke them gently to get their attention with these smokey tendrils. Although admittedly, it just mostly tickles.
Limitations:
Beginners using this ability require tons of both concentration and smoke in order to be able to properly lift even the smallest of objects to their hand! It's incredibly difficult to master this ability with the amount of focus one requires to properly use it, but once mastered, Kwillians can find themselves able to bring whatever objects they want to themselves without even a second thought!
Color Smoke
Color already existing smoke, or use your magic to create colored smoke from your lungs. It's a boy!
Uses:
Isn't smoke just boring, always being a dull gray? Well, not anymore with this ability! Take that boring smoke, either already existing or straight from your lungs with your magic, and color it all the colors of the rainbow to your heart's desire! Fun for parties with little Kwillings, festivals, and fairs.
Limitations:
The limitations depend on the way you color the smoke! If it's smoke already in the air, there's a limited range to the amount of smoke a Kwillian can color at one time depending on their level of mastery of the ability. If it's straight from the lungs, it's dependent on your lung capacity and level of focus! Although, a Kwillian creating the smoke straight from their lungs tend to produce much more vibrant color, and reduces the level of danger the smoke would pose.
Professional
Breathe Smog
Inhale heavily polluted air without issue and clear your lungs with ease. The evolved form of Breathe Smoke.
Uses:
The stronger form of Breathe Smoke, a Kwillian can breathe in and out heavily polluted air without issue! No pollution is too much for a master of this ability, and makes Smoke Kwillian very useful for ventures outside Glyphith in potentially dangerously polluted areas!
Limitations:
Each breath requires concentrating your magic into your lungs, so consistently keeping this ability up in high-stakes areas is tough! Much like its sibling ability allowing one to breathe in smoke, lung capacity can be a detriment. The more breath you intake, the more pollutants you intake, meaning more to filter out with magic. Remember, short controlled breaths are the key to efficiency, especially as draining your magic in a smoggy area and no longer being able to use this ability could spell death…
Smoke Constructs
Create solid constructs from smoke, temporarily turning the gaseous substance into a firm compacted solid.
Uses:
Taking large amounts of smoke, a Kwillian can create almost completely solid constructs from smoke alone! With enough concentration, this ability can be used to make things like temporary stepping platforms for a Kwillian to stand on, or even can be used as a shield! There's a lot of potential with this ability!
Limitations:
The more solid you want your object to be, the more smoke and concentration is required to hold that shape for long periods of time. Especially if you're making a platform to be stood on, you gotta keep that shape solid with the extra weight added on! Platforms for standing are definitely hard for a beginner Kwillian to attempt to make, best for a beginner to stick with small solids for now.
Purify Smoke
Use your lungs to purify smoke, inhale smoke or smog and exhale clean fresh air in its place.
Uses:
Concentrating their magic in their lungs, a Smoke Kwillian can do the opposite of what they're used to; Breathing in smoke or smog, they can exhale clean, fresh air in its place! Useful for small, smoke-filled rooms like the resulting smoke of maybe a small cooking fire. Simply inhale that smoke and bam, clean air once more!
Limitations:
As another breathing-related magic ability this one, like all the others, is tied to your lung capacity! The longer you can hold your breath, the cleaner the air you breathe out will be. However, this ability also takes quite a bit of magic to use, so even masters tend to find themselves quite exhausted after using this ability. Creating clean air is quite tough!
