Open your ears and hear the tiniest of sounds, from leaves moving to the malrattics scuttling.
This ability is useful for receiving communication from a friend over long distances or for finding someone who is lost! More awareness of your surroundings is also a plus to this ability, as it helps Kwillian stay vigilant and pick up sounds more easily. Quiet noises like footsteps, leaves blowing in a breeze, insects scuttling, and the sound of a blade leaving a scabbard are all heard much more easily by a Kwillian using Enhanced Hearing.
Beginners using this ability find it hard to hear anything very far away, and even those who are adept at using enhanced hearing often struggle to clearly understand spoken words from roughly one hundred and fifty yards. Singling out noises in a particularly noisy area, such as attempting to pick out voices in a crowd, is also difficult for beginners and can lead to becoming overwhelmed quite easily.
Mute, amplify, or distort a sound by manipulating its vibrations.
Can be used to manipulate outside noises in multiple ways, including making them quieter to the point of silence, amplifying them to be louder, or even distorting them. This can be used to make voices louder, both the magic users and those around them. Can also be used to shut people up, or alter your voice to sound different or like a monster to pull pranks.
The magic only works one way at a time. If it's silencing, it can't amplify or distort, same for distorting over amplifying or silencing. To distort a sound, the Kwillian using the magic has to be relatively close to the source, so it can't be used to quiet a whole crowd, but it can be used to create an auditory dead zone. Required concentration, and amplifying a sound loud enough to bother the Kwillian using the magic runs the risk of the spell stopping.
Speak what you've heard, voices and noises alike.
The Kwillian using this ability can mimic or replicate any voice or noise they've heard before! This can be an animal, object falling, or another Kwillian's voice! Useful for birdcalling, or pranking, whichever one strikes your fancy. Also useful for causing enough of a distraction for a dramatic exit.
This noise originates from the mouth of the Harmony Kwillian using it, and because the magic requires them to call upon their memory, it is hard to create an exact copy (that requires more advanced magic. See: Repeat). This means that when replicating their chosen sound, the magic may falter if their memory of it is not clear. The Kwillian using this magic cannot impersonate a Kwillian they've never met or mimic a sound they've never heard.
Create audio at a distance, projecting sounds created in one's mind.
The user of this magic can choose a target kwillian or creature and project a sound directly into their mind. This can be anything the user can think of, including songs or voices. This ability can be used to target more than one thing, including up to a small group. This ability can also be used by the user to project a sound into their own mind. Useful for
Voices made with False Sound are never clear when projected and are best described as hearing a conversation from another room, a bit muffled and unclear. This ability grows harder to perform the more targets there are, and requires concentration from its user. Targets of this ability will all hear the sound coming from the same direction the user chooses.
Retain and repeat a stored noise you've heard before, including speech.
Allows the user to store direct copies of noise, voices, and even an entire “audio” log direction in their soul for later playback. Useful for giving forgetful friends exact reminders, playing white noise, or eavesdropping. Many Harmony Kwillian find this ability useful for remembering long lectures. Some, however, use this ability to remember the voices of loved ones they have lost and refuse to record anything else.
The stored sounds must have been taking place within earshot of the magic user to be stored successfully. These sounds are played back aloud, not in the minds of the user or a target. Only one string of audio can be stored at a time, but can be repeated as many times as the user wishes. Recording sounds requires concentration but can be easily shared with others once the recording is complete.
Project your voice at any volume to another Kwillian, allowing you to speak to an individual from a distance.
The magic caster can project their voice directly into the ear of a single, specific target. The distance for this ability is incredibly flexible, and is reliant more so on the caster knowing, roughly, where their target is located. This magic is useful to speak to loved ones over incredible distances, but has been especially used by spies to deliver messages.
While the ability has no technical limit, the caster must be able to think of the location their target is in, whether they have visual or physical memory of it, alongside recalling something memorable about their target. Due to this, the spell requires extreme concentration to be cast, and will fail if they cannot maintain it. If their target is not in the area they are picturing, the ability will also fail. The user must speak out loud, as they are projecting their voice, not thoughts, and can be heard by anyone around the caster.
Mimic the sound and power of a sonic boom with none of the needed speed to create it.
The caster of this magic can create a single, loud noise to stun, disorient, and even deafen an opponent. This ability is favored by lone explorers or soldiers, allowing them to catch their enemies off guard or allow them to quickly make an escape from creatures and monsters.
This ability cannot be used underwater or in an area without enough air. This ability does not cause permanent hearing loss to those afflicted, but can cause tinnitus that lasts for several days. Deaf Kwillian or creatures are immune to this ability. This magic doesn't affect the user in a wide, open area, but can harm them in an enclosed space.
Use noise vibrations to resonate at an object or other Kwillian, disorienting or even catastrophic.
Using one's own voice, the user can magically amplify a single tone to resonate within something or someone, such as glass, rock, metal, or even the skull of another creature. This ability can disorient opponents and can be used to crack or even shatter inanimate objects. While it has its uses in combat, it is also useful for party tricks or even in the arts to purposefully crack their chosen materials.
Resonance relies on lung power, which means this ability can only be used as long as the Harmony Kwillian can hold a note. This ability takes tremendous practice, as it also relies on the Kwillian recognizing what tones resonate best within their chosen materials. Tone deaf Kwillian often struggles to learn Resonance. No matter how long a Kwillian can hold a note, this ability can't cause real damage to another creature.
Use noise to guide you when your eyes fail you; feel vibrations bounce back to you from what you can't see.
The user can use a noise they have made to feel the vibrations bounce back, conjuring a mental map of the space around them. This ability is best utilized when the Kwillian is unable to see and is most effective when exploring caves or other dark, enclosed spaces to map out branching paths or obstacles. This ability is especially useful if the user wants to avoid using lanterns or candles when they're inside, and others are sleeping, such as sneaky midnight snack runs.
Requires the Kwillian to make a noise, which can be quiet or loud, with louder noises giving more distance. This ability is more effective with an echo, letting them cover more ground as the sound bounces off objects and is reflected back to the user. This ability should be minimized in use when a Kwillian can see, as the vibrational map and visual feedback can become disorienting and overwhelming. Closing one's eyes or putting on a blindfold can minimize this. The vibrations do not have colors, and it can be hard to distinguish similarly shaped gemstones in the dark without it.
